+KuleKat has wide-ranging interests many of which are concerned with the way in which our world is changing and our responses to these new challenges and opportunites.

Compared to other creatures on the planet we are remarkably frail and rely on ingenuity and technology where other animals are naturally endowed with fur, or sharp claws, or wings. This interaction between human technology and the environment always has and always will define us as a species, but it also means we perpetually tread a perilous line between prosperity and calamity.

In simple terms, I like looking at technology - the application of ideas to practical purposes, whether they be pivotal, frivolous, surprising, obvious or well worn. Examples vary from the cutting edge such as LED lighting through the reasonably familiar but still not mainstream,  solar lighting for instance, to quite pervasive and basic technologies such as wood burners that many might consider had no place in the modern world.

Along the way I also enjoy diversions about home surveillance systems (having spent more time than I care to recall setting up my own), pet interests in wood carports (again, a personal project that got out of hand - anyone spot a theme here?) and cholesterol test kits, seeing as how I shall have to spend the rest of my days monitoring and controlling my own cholesterol levels.

Oh, and did I mention my contempt for most of the so-called "self help" industry with their magic incantations for manifesting wealth. Quite why so many go along with this latter day version of the guru's new garments is an enduring mystery, but at the end of the day it provides a target-rich environment for folk like me. Why whistle along to someone else's tune when you can just as easily sing your own song...
